The people of the state has commended the state’s government plan to build an ultra modern bus terminal at the holy ghost ogbete main market enugu and three other central stations in the state.
They expressed their view during an interview section conducted by journalists at the proposed site for the Enugu Central Station.
The state government in 2023, proposed to bulid four ultra modern bus terminals in the state with road network in order to have an organised transport business in the state.
The state government who inturn has commenced the payment of compensation to property owner’s around the market road has also provided a temporary locations pending when the project is completed within the next 12 months.
The state commissioner for transport, Dr Obi Ozor during an interview said the proposed facility consists of dual terminals, inter state and intra City. He noted that each of the terminals will accommodate 1400 vehicles with different routes to different locations such as Garriki, Abakpa, Emene, Nsukka among others. He said Government is proposing laying the foundation of the three other central stations , namely Nsukka, Garrik,i Abakpa for phase one project, while that of 9th Mile and others Areas will commence in the second phase.
He said the proposed cental stations is part of the government’s infrastructural plan aimed at curtailing traffic congestion, enhance safety, optimize transport efficiency and improve security.
Reacting to the development, some of the transport company managers, Mrs Ngozi Nnamani, Mr Abani Egbo and Mr Ndubusis Ogbonna, appealed to government to hastern up with the project in order to meet up with the stipulated time which 12 months. They commended Government’s plan which they said will go along way in addressing the traffic congestion presently faced in that area. They also confirmed that some of them have started receiving compensation from Government.
Also, an Enugu resident Mrs favour Okorocha, described the project as a welcome development which she said will go along way in addressing traffic congestion and also improve security in the Area.
