Our mission in the Nigerian Federal Ministry of Innovation, Science, and Technology is committed to using science, technology, and innovation to build a sustainable, knowledge-driven economy.
Guided by the National Science, Technology, and Innovation Policy (2022), our Ministry serves as a collaborative platform among federal ministries and agencies, to advance innovation across all sectors.
Nigeria faces major challenges like climate change, land degradation, and biodiversity loss.
To tackle these, we have adopted the Commonwealth Living Lands Charter, which provides a clear plan for sustainable development.
This framework focuses on restoration, conservation, and climate-smart agriculture, ensuring a greener and more resilient future.
As a ministry, we are leading the way in green innovation by aligning national policies with global commitments.
We are driving sustainable development through key initiatives, including:Nigeria Green Economy Transition Project – Promoting sustainable land use with renewable energy, reforestation, and agroforestry.
Methanol Fuel Production Technology – Developing cleaner, low-emission fuel alternatives to reduce dependence on fossil fuels.Climate-Smart Greenhouses – Advancing modern, controlled-environment farming for reliable, year-round food production.
National Technology Action Plan – Accelerating the use of advanced technologies in agriculture, industry, and energy to boost efficiency and sustainability.
Through strategic partnerships and financing mechanisms, we are unlocking new funding streams to drive large-scale adaptation projects and expand climate resilience efforts nationwide.
Representing Nigeria’s leadership in innovation and sustainability, I was joined by two of the ministry agencies Director Generals under the Federal Ministry of Innovation, Science, and Technology:Prof. Abdullahi Mustapha, Director General of the National Biotechnology Research and Development Agency (NABRDA), who highlighted Nigeria’s advancements in climate-resilient biotechnology and Dr. Mustapha Abdullahi, Director General of the Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN), who showcased clean energy solutions for climate-smart agriculture.
Together, we engaged in high-level discussions with other Commonwealth member nations, reinforcing Nigeria’s commitment to leveraging innovation, climate finance, and technology to drive food security and sustainability.
Let this serve as a call to action for governments, private enterprises, and civil society. We must collaborate, invest in climate finance, and lead the green transition.
