In other to ensure that proper first aid and emergency response are provided in case of any road accident in the state, the state Government has commenced the training of the Enugu State Traffic Management Authority (ESTMA) on Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, CPR, skills.
The training which took place at the ministry of transport, is expected to be repeated biennially and to educate the first aiders and responders to road emergencies on the basic knowledge to curb unwarranted death. And after the six hours training, certificates will be issued to the trainees.
During the flag off campaign on CPR and other necessary technical training for the ESTMA officers, the state commissioner for transport, Dr Obi Ozor commended the state governor Dr Peter Mbah for giving approval for the training, urged the participants to take it very seriously as that would aid their promotion as civil servants and also support them as individuals, as it would equip them with the necessary skills to save any emergency around them anywhere they see themselves.
Dr Ozor said the ESTMA officers from the transport ministry are usually the first responders whenever an accident or emergency occurs, noting that the training is part of the mandate by the governor to ensure that all the ministry’s staff on the road are equipped to deal with the emergencies they face on a daily basis.
Earlier, the Special Adviser to the governor on Health, Dr Yomi Jaye, while acknowledging that one must not be a medical doctor before rendering first aid or the needed medical assistance to emergencies, described it as a standard level training for the participants.
Dr Jaye further said his office has the mandate to always organise a refresher training, noted that the exercise would help to reduce mortality across the state as there must be a responder around the emergency scene in order to avoid deaths.
