The Enugu State government through the State Emergency Management Agency, has presented cheques ranging from Three Hundred Thousand (300,000) Naira to One Million, Five Hundred Thousand (1,500,000) Naira, as well as food and non-food items to the victims of fire incident which occurred in a filling station on January 12, 2025 at Ibagwa- Ugwogo- Opi Nsukka expressway.
The incident happened when a filling station and a fuel tanker discharging product, went up in flames, destroying residential buildings, shops and vehicle.
While sympathizing with the victims, the governor, represented by the Head, Enugu State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA, Mrs Chinasa Mbah, said the gesture was to cushion the effect of the disaster on the Victims.
Dr Mbah through the SEMA boss advised residents to take measures by ensuring that there are fire extinguisher around their areas, avoid taking calls while at the filling station, avoid dispensing fuel while a tanker is discharging a product, avoid smoking around a filling station, among other safety and preventive measures.
Speaking on behalf of other victims, one of the affected landlords, Chief Peter Agbo who expressed gratitude to the governor for his magnanimity, described him as a good man.
Food and non-food items presented to the victims were Bags of Rice, Gallons of Vegetable oil, Blankets, Mosquito nets, Spaghetti among others.
