Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, has refuted widespread rumours suggesting he is preparing to defect to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The clarification was issued on Tuesday by his media aide, Ibrahim Umar, under the Peter Obi Media Reach (POMR), in response to viral claims linking Obi with a planned return to the PDP or allegiance to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
According to the statement, a purported press release allegedly issued by Obi denying a move to the PDP and affirming loyalty to the ADC is entirely false and not authorized by the former Anambra State governor.
> “The Peter Obi Media Reach (POMR) has been made aware of a purported statement from our principal, Peter Obi, denying joining the Peoples Democratic Party and reaffirming his commitment to the African Democratic Congress,” the media office stated.
Obi’s team emphasized that he has remained consistent in his position regarding political alliances and coalition-building, and would not allow false narratives to distort his focus.
> “Peter Obi has been unequivocal in his position in the ongoing coalition and doesn’t need anyone to put words into his mouth,” the statement read. “He would not accept anybody attributing a statement to him just to satisfy their devious agenda.”
POMR further cautioned the public and media outlets to disregard any statements not issued through Obi’s verified communication channels, reiterating that only messages from his official handle or authorized media office should be considered credible.
