Abuja / Enugu — Senator Okey Ezea, representing Enugu North Senatorial District on the Labour Party ticket, has died. The lawmaker passed away on Tuesday in the United Kingdom, where he was receiving medical treatment. Details of his death have not been officially disclosed.
News of Ezea’s death has sparked widespread mourning among colleagues in the Senate and residents of his constituency. Senate members, including Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, described his passing as “a painful blow” and a significant loss to the nation’s legislature. Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan paid tribute to his gentle nature and integrity, saying he would be greatly missed.
Ezea, also known as “Ideke,” was elected to the Senate in 2023 and was the only Labour Party senator from Enugu State at the time of his death. He was recognized for his dedication to his constituency and active involvement in national politics.
The Nigerian Senate is expected to observe a minute of silence in his honour. In Enugu North, residents described the news as “somber,” expressing sorrow at the loss of a leader they remembered as prayerful, committed, and service-oriented.
No official funeral arrangements have been announced.
