Before his interest to be governor, there’s no opposition politics in Enugu state, it’s a winner takes all affairs.
Since his declaration, Enugu politics never remained the same.
As a Minister, he did the unprecedented, building trust through grassroots Empowerment and employment, over 500 federal jobs secured for the youths of Enugu state and beyond, making him the best Minister to ever come from Enugu state.
He revolutionized the Ministry of Innovation Science and Technology, putting it in its proper place as the engine room of economic development. From clean energy policies, raw materials research, energy institute to satellite development etc, Nnaji blazed the trail.
In all these, he never lost sight of the party APC Enugu state, he organized, nurtured and financed the party across the 260 wards. Even when some SEC members tried to destabilize the party by passing a vote of no confidence on the former chairman and impeaching, he stood and protected his chairman as a dependable ally, howbeit not knowing he was saving a Judas.
They never gave him a chance but his success jolted them, it frightened them, they became vicious and desperate. Judas sold out thinking it’s over.
In desperation, they tried to break him, they blackmailed and even bought over his supposed close allies who sold out to betray him, yet in all these, Nwakaibie remained steadfast to his dreams to liberate his people, using every stone thrown at him as a stepping stone.
They had to abandon the party that brought them to power to usurp the APC built by Nwakaibie foisting their structure in a bid to exploit the weak link that says governors are leaders of the party.
In a bid to kill competition they forgot that being a leader can also be ceremonial and doesn’t guarantee automatic ticket, I wish they learn from former Governor Ambode of Lagos state.
One reality that has dawned on them is that getting the APC ticket, if at all, doesn’t guarantee winning the next election in Enugu state because it’s becoming obvious the people need a change and the one who exactly they want.
Overwhelming majority of ndi Enugu wants Chief Uche Nnaji Nwakaibie as the next governor of Enugu state.
They were everywhere celebrating his willful resignation, thinking it’s over yet he was underground doing the needful, reaching out to the people in the most noiseless manner that symbolizes his personality as a noiseless achiever.
Nwakaibie is the leader ndi Enugu wants, the outgoing should concentrate on using the remaining few months to do something tangible for ndi Enugu for the sake of posterity otherwise, there will be nothing to remember him with after 2027.
