The renewed hope initiative which was launched at the okpara square in Enugu had the first Lady of Enugu state Mrs Mbah in attendance,representing the first lady, the Wife of the president Sen, Remi Tinubu.
The scheme which is Sen, Remi’s initiative, had the theme, better days ahead.
In her speech, she said the scheme which is an economic programme is born out of the commitment to the wellbeing of every citizen in the Nation, to pursue a more compassionate and collective society.
The scheme she said is to support 250 vulnerable elderly citizens age 65 and above in all the 36 states of the Federation and the Federal capital territory, also covers, veteran from the defence and police officers wives association.
The selected beneficiaries will receive a sum of 100 thousand Naira each. This is to cushion the effect of the economic situation and alleviate the bounding of our esteemed elders.
Total sum to be disbursed is 900 hundred and fifty million Naira. Each state will receive a sum of 25 million naira.
She said she is committed to seeing that each state receives the gesture without discrimination.
The state commissioner for poverty Eradication earlier in his speech, thanked the wife of the president, Sen Remi Tinubu for this kind gesture.
He said the scheme which is the same with the state’s social protection policy is aimed at remembering the elderly as it concerns their welfare.
He urged them to put the money into things that will yield profit in other to make life more comfortable for them.
