Raw Material Research and Development Council under the Ministry of Innovation Science and Technology has developed a patent CHITOSAN.

Chitosan is a naturally occurring polymer derived from the deacetylation of chitin, a key component of the exoskeletons of crustaceans, insects, and arachnids. It has a number of valuable properties and applications:

  1. Biocompatible and biodegradable
  2. Antimicrobial and antifungal properties
  3. Wound healing and tissue engineering
  4. Drug delivery and pharmaceutical applications
  5. Cosmetics and skincare products
  6. Food and beverage industry (e.g., as a food additive or packaging material)
  7. Water treatment and wastewater management
  8. Agricultural applications (e.g., seed coatings, fertilizers)
