The State Director of the National Orientation Agency, Kwara State, Mr. Olusegun Adeyemi, has cautioned Nigerians, particularly the youth, against involvement in protests and actions that can degenerate into breaches of peace, violence, looting, and the destruction of lives and properties in our communities and the nation at large.
Commenting on the proposed protests in Nigeria, Adeyemi observed that protests are often hijacked by hoodlums and criminal-minded people, thereby causing more hardship for innocent residents.
He opined that constructive engagements and collective bargaining, as employed by the NLC/TUC on the issue of minimum wage, are the options for productive and efficient outcomes.
Adeyemi emphasized the importance of engaging in dialogue and peaceful negotiation with the government to address grievances, noting that such approaches often yield more sustainable and long-lasting solutions.
He also urged community leaders and influencers to advocate for peaceful resolutions and to educate the youth on the potential dangers and futility of violent protests.
Furthermore, Adeyemi highlighted the role of the media in promoting peace and stability by reporting responsibly and avoiding the dissemination of inflammatory or misleading information that could incite unrest.
The NOA Director called on journalists and media houses to support national unity and development by focusing on constructive and solution-oriented reporting.
He also called on parents, particularly mothers guardians , community leaders and opinion leaders to ensure that our children and young ones are nor recruited for any protests in the interest of all and sundry.
