President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of new members to the governing councils of three major federal universities: the University of Abuja (UNIABUJA), the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), and Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka (NAU).
The appointments were announced in a statement issued on Monday, May 27, 2025, by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.
University of Abuja (UNIABUJA) Governing Council:
Prof. Rosemary Iriowen Egonmwan โ South South
Dr. Adedeji Adefuye โ South West
Prof. Sarki Abba Abdulkadir โ North West
Prof. Aminu Mohammed Dukku โ North East
University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) Governing Council:

The new council members are expected to support the management and development of their respective institutions, provide oversight, and help shape policy directions in line with the federal governmentโs education agenda.
The appointments come as part of the Tinubu administrationโs efforts to reform the governance structure of Nigerian universities and improve accountability, efficiency, and academic excellence in the higher education sector.
