Ministry of Education Enugu has kicked against any attempt by any private,mission or public school that charges outrageous West African examinations council WAEC and NECO fees.
The commissioner for Education Prof Ndubueze Mbah deplored the alleged extortion, started that there would be dire consequences against any school proprietor that dares charge parents/ guardians above government stipulated fees for such examinations.
The approved WAEC fee for 2025, is N28,000, (N27,000 TO WAEC and N1,000 for processing fee.
The approved NECO fee for 2025, is N30,000,(27,000+500+2,500) payable to NECO.
The ministry says institutions that would go contrary to the stipulated fees would face legal prosecution which includes dismissal from service and revocation of provisional approved license.
Any extorting fees collected should be refunded immediately.
Parents in the state, are strongly encouraged to report to the ministry of Education any incident of extortion in the guise of fee collection for WAEC and NECO the commissioner declared.
