Lafia, Nasarawa State – June 26, 2025
A High Court sitting in Lafia, Nasarawa State, has sentenced Oluwatimileyin Ajayi to death by hanging for the killing of Salome Adaidu, a serving member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
Ajayi was convicted on a charge of culpable homicide, in violation of Section 221 of the Penal Code applicable in Northern Nigeria, which mandates the death penalty for intentional murder.
Delivering the judgment, Justice Simon Aboki held that the evidence presented by the prosecution proved Ajayi’s guilt beyond reasonable doubt. The court found that he not only murdered Adaidu but also dismembered her body in an attempt to conceal the crime.
The ruling has sparked reactions from members of the public and human rights advocates, many of whom had closely followed the case, demanding justice for the slain corps member.
