APC Dominates Rivers LG Polls, PDP Holds On To Port Harcourt, Two Others

By Nneka Ibe

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has emerged victorious in the Rivers State local government elections, securing 20 out of the 23 council chairmanship seats.

According to results announced by the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC), the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) retained control in only three Local Government Areas (LGAs) — Obio-Akpor, Port Harcourt City, and Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni.

The outcome of the polls marks a significant political shift in Rivers, where the PDP has historically maintained dominance. Notably, Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s home LGA of Opobo-Nkoro was won by the APC, further underscoring the party’s widespread victory across the state.

Observers have described the results as a landslide for the APC, reshaping the state’s political landscape ahead of future elections.
