Chairman APC Enugu State Hon.Barr Ugochukwu Agballa in his goodwill message expressed: It is with great honour and joy that I warmly welcome you all to this historic event of the launching of the women wing of APC Enugu state and unveiling of their uniform (Hollandaise) this day September 6, 2025. The unveiling of the women’s wing is without doubt another remarkable major milestone, unprecedented, the first of its kind in the historical chronicles of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Enugu State, South East and the entire Nigeria. We give glory to the Almighty God for His mercy, leading and grace upon our party.
On behalf of the leadership and entire members of APC Enugu state I joyfully welcome Dr. Mrs Mary Alile-Adile, the APC National Woman leader and her team, to our state. Mother General, we are deeply honoured by your presence which has added color, glamour, camaraderie and official impromatur to the All Progressive Congress (APC) women wing.
I also welcome my brother and leader Chief Emma Eneukwu National Deputy Chairman (South) who has been a committed and strong supporter of our reformist policies that has re-positioned the party and who has consistently availed us of his wise counsel which has helped us to successfully pilot this great ship from the shark infested waters.
I wish to express my heartfelt gratitude to our dignified leader, my friend, beloved brother and life long political ally, Chief Uche Nnaji, popularly known as Nwakibie of Africa the Honourable Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology, a man who within just two years has redefined the ministry of innovation science and technology and within the community of Ministers of STI in African is regarded as the best performing Minister of Innovation, science of technology not only in the entire African continent which is why I have added a new title to his other intimidating titles …Nwakibie of Africa. This is the Moses whom God has chosen to lead Enugu state to the land of promise. He has demonstrated iconic leadership acumen by re-positioning our great party as the party of choice in Enugu state. Today APC Enugu has been re-engineered to become the very hub of political transformation and empowerment of the women party members in Enugu State. A man am proud and elated to call my Leader, The Nwakibie of Africa. A tested political leader, democrat and seasoned administrator. In 1997 as young men we sacrificed our youth and fought for this democracy everyone is enjoying today. Uche Nnaji paid with his freedom as he was detained by then SSS because of democracy and that was why we elected him in 1999 as a senator under thirty yrs of age to represent Enugu East senatorial zone, a seat he willingly gave up due to his respect for party leadership and geo political balancing and representation. Nwakibie of Africa may God continue to empower u as u lead us to the lion building come 2027.
Permit me also to extend our profound appreciation to the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, OON, CON, for her outstanding achievements and unwavering commitment to the empowerment of Nigerian women.
Three months ago I decided to activate the dormant constitutional provision in our party aptly captured in Article 12:19 which provides for the establishment of the women wing and its composition, structure and operation.
I discussed with our capable, intellectual and effective state woman leader Prof Amaka Onu, the only state woman leader with a PhD from the prestigious University of Nigeria Nsukka. the foremost and premier African University and directed her on what to do and she immediately put up a committee to that effect. I also approached Chief Uche Nnaji the leader of our party and major financial powerhouse of our activities and he gave me his word to support and finance their activities to the best of not only his ability but his very deep capacity from the state down to the polling booth level . I presented a proposal to the SWC which was tabled before an expanded meeting of the SEC and on Fri. August 8th 2025 we convoked a special meeting of stakeholders and members of state congress drawn from all the 260 wards of the state where the resolution of the SWC was adopted and approved by a unanimous resolution of the body to wit: that APC Enugu state Congress hereby adopts the proposal of the state chairman and hereby establishes a women wing for the women of APC Enugu in accordance with the constitutional provisions of the party as enshrined in Article 12:19 of the 2022 constitution as amended. Therefore we started working round the clock to put in place the mechanism to have a state structure, Seventeen (17)Local govt Areas structures , 260 wards structures and 4140 polling booths structures of the party in Enugu state.
Today, APC Enugu makes history as we proudly birth yet another solid structure that will come to stay the first of its kind in the entire Nation–the APC Enugu State Women Wing, ably led by Prof. Mrs Amaka Onu our state woman leader. She is capably supported by a dream team made up of our dynamic Woman Mobilizers, Princess Ekene Ozobu, Dr Mrs Cynthia Agbo, Pastor Mrs Ubenma Bekky Anyaji, Mrs Favor Asogwa, Barr Mrs Ada Odeh, alongside many dedicated, intelligent, and visionary women who form the strong bulwark that propelled this epic movement.
To our ever-vibrant Senatorial, Local government and ward and polling booth women Leaders, you are the true amazing, superlative, conquering amazons of our party. I salute your courage, commitment, and sacrifice.
Finally, to our supportive stakeholders and all distinguished members of our great party’s Women’s Wing, it is my utmost pleasure to extend warm greetings and fraternal goodwill wishes to you all as you gather for this significant game changer of an event which is the APC WOMEN WING UNVEILING & CONFERENCE.
Your unwavering dedication, passion, and resilience in advancing our party’s principles and empowering women across our community have not gone unnoticed. Your efforts are the bedrock of our party’s strength and progress, and I commend your tireless work in mobilizing, inspiring, and uplifting women to participate actively in our political processes.
This conference is a testament to our collective commitment to promoting inclusivity, gender equality, and sustainable development. I have no doubt that it will serve as a platform for meaningful dialogue, empowerment, and networking and further solidifying the bonds that unite us as a family.
I am confident that the insights, experiences, and ideas shared during this conference will equip you with the tools and motivation needed to drive even greater impact in our communities and within our party.
Nevertheless, I will not fail to mention that though our state has received very negligible federal appointments but our women folk from Enugu state have been well represented in federal political appointments under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu which is the clearest testament to the commitment of the leadership of APC to empower our women. We have women as DGs, Federal Commissioners, members of governing council of federal universities and Polytechnics and also in boards, parastatals and commissions. And more have been nominated for many positions yet to be announced.
Prior to 2021 before I assumed office as state chairman and Chief Uche Nnaji as leader and election of the present SEC there was nothing like ward or LGA meeting no wonder we met a party existing only on WhatsApp and full of moles, carpetbaggers and shameless fifth columnists who were proudly APC in Abuja but PDP in Enugu. This was the main reason the party has been unable to win any position since it’s formation in 2015. We had a situation where the former chairman of the party dressed in full APC regalia audaciously attended all PDP rallies and endorsed and campaigned for all their presidential, governorship, national and state assembly candidates ably supported by virtually all the leaders of the party most of whom had held very high positions in both the federal and state level. That situation was completely unacceptable to me and we had to cleanse the Augean stable not minding its consequences. We thank God that today we have a party in Enugu state backed up by a committed leadership and a membership that understands that the sole purpose of a political party is to win elections.
APC Enugu state like the legendary phonecian Phoenix has ressurected from the ashes of its dermise stronger, and most attractive to the extent that all politicians in Enugu state from the top to the last citizen are all lobbying to become our member. Since January this year we have been holding public rallies to welcome defectors from other political parties of Labour, PDP and APGA. Most of the former leaders of Labour and prominent members of PDP are now members of our party. Am sure u are aware that in Enugu state the man on the field believes that Labour Party won the last governorship election but that is story for another day. However over seventy percent of the members of former Labour Party are now members of APC.
When I started supervising our monthly ward meetings all over the state I noticed that women constituted an overwhelming majority of attendees and this our way of supporting them to take a bigger control of not only the process but the real strict which will make them to be in a position to effectively and effectually determine their polical future.
On behalf of the State Executive Committee, I express my deepest appreciation for the invaluable contributions of the women of our party to our political position in the consciousness of our people. Your leadership, activism, and advocacy have been instrumental in shaping a more inclusive and progressive society. I pledge the continued support and collaboration of the leadership as we work together to achieve our shared goals and build a very great party and a brighter future for all of us and children unborn.
I will not end this speech without once more expressing my deep appreciation to Chief Uche Nnaji who has walked the talk in the empowerment of the party’s women folk by ensuring they are appointed into high offices and also the support of the leader of the South East, the man who made all these successes possible. The man who singularly is the most potent force behind the APC resurgimento in the entire South East. The hope of the downtrodden, the hope of the politically and economically marginalized, the only Governor-general we know. His Excellency Sen Hope Uzodinma. May God continue to keep him for us, May God continue to bless him, May God continue to lead him.
Finally, I wish you a successful and enriching event. May your deliberations yield fruitful outcomes, and may your collective efforts continue to inspire hope, unity, and progress. I give u my fatherly anointed blessings. You are all blessed and highly lifted. One woman one nation. God bless my beloved women of APC Enugu state.
