ORGANISERS INTENSIFY CONSULTATIONS AHEAD OF THE AUGUST 17, POLITICS NOT WAR PROTEST

Preparations have intensified ahead of the planned “Anti-Mbah’s #Politics Not War Protest” scheduled to hold at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) National Headquarters, Abuja, on August 17.

According to the organisers, Comrade Kennedy Iyere on Tuesday met with officials of the British High Commission Abuja, briefed them about the upcoming Anti-Mbah #Politics Not War Protest, fixed for August 17, 2026, describing it as a peaceful citizens’ initiative aimed at defending democratic values and promoting political accountability.

The organisers further disclosed that similar engagements are being planned with representatives of the European Union and the United States Embassy in Abuja later this week as part of broader stakeholder consultations ahead of the demonstration.

They said the outreach is intended to inform members of the diplomatic community about the planned protest and to underscore their commitment to a peaceful and lawful exercise of the constitutional rights to freedom of expression and peaceful assembly.

The August 17 protest is being organised under the theme ”#Politics Not War”, with organisers saying it seeks to draw attention to what they describe as growing concerns over the political climate in Enugu State.
