The Nigerian Army has confirmed the deaths of several soldiers following coordinated attacks by armed bandits on military forward operating bases in Niger and Kaduna States.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the Army disclosed that the attacks occurred on Tuesday, June 24, 2025. The targeted locations included Kwanar Dutse Mairiga and Boka in Niger State, as well as Aungwan Turai in the Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
Describing the assault as a โthree-pronged attack,โ the Army said suspected terrorists launched simultaneous strikes on the bases, leading to an intense, day-long battle between troops and the attackers.
In response, the military deployed both land and air forces in a series of counter-offensives, reportedly killing dozens of the assailants. Despite these efforts, the Army confirmed that several soldiers were killed in action, while four others sustained gunshot wounds and are currently receiving medical treatment.
The statement expressed deep sorrow over the loss of the personnel, honoring them as โgallant warriorsโ who made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of the nation. It added that further updates would be provided as more details emerge.
These latest attacks underscore the ongoing security challenges in Nigeriaโs North-West region, where armed groups have continued to target communities and security forces in a wave of escalating violence.
The Nigerian military has ramped up its counter-terrorism operations in the region, including increased troop deployments and aerial surveillance aimed at disrupting the activities of insurgents and criminal elements.
