A 36-year-old man, Yaman Patigi, has been apprehended in Kwara State while allegedly attempting to deliver foodstuffs, hard drugs, alcoholic beverages, and cigarettes to armed bandits terrorizing parts of the state.
The arrest took place on Friday in Patigi town, the administrative center of Patigi Local Government Area. According to reports gathered by DAILY POST, the suspect has since been transferred to the Department of State Services (DSS) in Ilorin, the state capital, for further interrogation and investigation.
Items found in his possession included banned substances and provisions reportedly meant for delivery to the criminals operating from forest hideouts in the region.
Communities across Patigi, Edu, and Ifelodun local government areas have recently suffered relentless attacks by armed groups, resulting in loss of lives, displacement of residents, and destruction of properties.
Reacting to the surge in insecurity, Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq held a strategic meeting with community stakeholders to devise coordinated plans aimed at rooting out the bandits from their enclaves.
Meanwhile, local sources confirmed that seven vigilante members were killed in an ambush on Thursday during a clearance mission in Lata Nna community. Their bodies were recovered on Saturday by another team on patrol.
Although official statements from security agencies remain unavailable, indications suggest that the Nigerian Army is preparing to launch a sustained offensive against the bandits in the affected areas.
