Sequel to the challenges of insecurity and disunity ravaging Nigeria’s unity, the Cika Aikin Kasar Hausa, Onwa N’ Udi, Chief Dr James Nebedum Ibe organised a roundtable discussion with selected leaders of the Hausa communities in Enugu State with the view to finding a lasting solution to the issues of national distrust and disunity, kidnappings and other social buses that has hindered national cohesion and peaceful co-existence among Nigerians .
In his opening remark, he welcomed all the heads of the Hausa communities resident in Enugu and requested for an open but sincere dialogue towards finding a lasting solution to the challenges .
He informed the delegates the meeting was prompted by the mandate given to him by the Emir of Daura during his turbaning ceremony which took place at the Emirs palace on 29th June 2025.
The Emir of Daura HRM Alh…..urged him to be a peace Ambassador that will resolve the distrust existing between northernerns and their host communities in the South East.
The Emir encouraged him to utilise his office as a member of the Daura Emirate council “Cika Aikin Kasar Hausa” to continue to preach peace and national unity in the South East and beyond.
He was reminded that his first assignment was to
broker peace between the Hausas living in Enugu State and other states in South East with their Igbo brothers.
He emphasised on the need for a peaceful coexistence among all tribes stating that without love and peace amongst us, Nigeria will not progress.
“Nigeria is one and we must strive to work together, be at peace irrespective of our tribe or religion” he said.
All hands must be on deck as every life is important just as every human deserves some dignity.
In his response, HRH Alhaji Suleiman Haruna Sule expressed his appreciation to Cika Aikin Kasar Hausa for the timely call towards fostering unity and seeking ways to a healthy and harmonious coexistence among the Hausas living in Enugu State and ways to ending all aggressiveness and insurgency.
The Sarkin Hausawa and other speakers later took time to make recommendations for a sustainable peace and cohesion.
- Need for empowerment of youths, engaging them in meaningful jobs to occupy their minds as an idle mind is the devil’s workshop.
- Education: They stated that their children and wards no longer attend schools due to non existence of Islamic/Arabic schools in Enugu State stating that the one that was available during their time at Agbani is no longer functional. Education is a fundamental right of every citizen of Nigeria.
- Need for re-orientation of the populace with particular interest on the Hausa/Fulani to understand that they are their brothers keepers. They called on National Orientation Agency NOA to do more in this area since they are saddled with the orientation exercise.
- Security Agencies (Army/Police) should be more proactive in discharging their duties. He stated that they have turned the check points into money making machine, neglecting their primary call of duty. There should be proper Stop and Search to be able to fish out the bad eggs. A Neighbourhood watch outfit was also suggested to assist the security in curbing all the menace.
- Good Leadership: There is need for good leaders to be well known amongst them as this will help to inculcate strong leadership to their subordinates.
- HRH, Alhaji Suleiman Haruna Sule said that the Hausas are used to living in market places and that it would be proper to give them a better settlement where they can be easily located and make for easy accessibility and proper identification of one another.
- Furthermore, Ikechukwu Ani PG Amozalla, stressed the need for unity as in the old where as an Igbo man you are not afraid to sleep in your Hausa friends’ house and can travel at any time without fear if being kidnapped. He demanded for a proper reorientation of Headers so as to be well informed. He said that most of them are illiterate who all their lives have not known anything other than being Headers. Some are ex-convicts, may or may not even be Nigerians. He suggested a proper check and balance when hiring them with spelt out duties, not to kill or allow their cows to destroy people’s farmlands.
The woman leader of the Hausa women, Hadiza Mohammad pledged their loyalty to Cika Alkin Kasar Hausa to seeing to the success of this project.
In his closing remark, Chief Dr James Nebedum Ibe, Cika Alkin Kasar Hausa, Onwa of Udi, saw the need for re-orientation of our people to bridge the gap of ignorance and admonished the leaders to go back to bases and begin orientation on a better living and coexistence with one another.
He pointed out that the gathering is not politically motivated, rather out of his concern for everyone to feel a sence of belonging in harmony without fear of being killed or kidnapped or the farmlands destroyed by the cows.
“We are all one irrespective of your tribe or religion” He concluded.
The Event was Also attended by Some Igbo traditional rulers ably led by HRH Igwe Marius Aham, Some President Generals, a representative of the national Orientation Agency and media organisations.
The representative of NOA applauded the initiative which she declared was part of the Agency’s mandate and promised to work closely with Cika Aikin Kasar Hausa in achieving his desire for a United Nigeria.
