The Federal Government has inaugurated two high-level committees to oversee the implementation of a comprehensive personnel audit and skills gap analysis across the federal civil service.
Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs. Didi Walson-Jack, announced the inauguration of the Steering and Project Implementation Committees, explaining that the exercise would begin before the end of August.
The move follows President Bola Tinubuโs directive in June at the International Civil Service Conference, where he ordered a service-wide audit to reposition the federal workforce for greater efficiency. The President stressed the importance of placing โthe right people in the right rolesโ while ensuring compliance with the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023.
According to Mrs. Walson-Jack, the audit will help government identify redundancies, bridge existing skills gaps, and determine areas where retraining or fresh recruitment may be required.
She added that the initiative forms part of the ongoing Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation Plan (2021โ2025), which also includes digitisation of work processes. Already, more than 34,000 civil servants have been assigned official government email addresses to enhance communication and transparency.
The committees are expected to provide oversight, ensure smooth execution of the audit, and recommend measures that will strengthen the civil service as the engine of government operations.
