Many Nigerians keep asking:
Why is Ex-Minister Hon. Uche Geoffrey Nnaji still in court with the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN)?
Some assume it is stubbornness.
Others think the matter is already settled.
But that assumption is exactly what this case seeks to correct.
Let us be clear: this is not a fight against UNN.
This is a fight for records, truth, and institutional accountability.
THE DISTORTION
The Vice Chancellor of UNN stated publicly that there was “no evidence available to him” to confirm that Hon. Uche Nnaji graduated.
Notice the language carefully.
He did not say Uche Nnaji did not graduate.
He said he did not see the evidence.
That single sentence is the heart of this case.
To justify that position, letters written by Hon. Uche Nnaji in the 1980s—requesting to resit a course—were selectively released to the public, creating the false impression that he failed to graduate.
That impression is misleading, incomplete, and historically dishonest.
THE HISTORICAL CONTEXT THEY REFUSE TO TELL YOU
In the 1980s, UNN operated a 4-Point Grading System, under which:
• Grade D = Pass (Weak Pass, 1.00 point)
• A Grade D never disqualified any student from graduating
• Thousands of Nigerians graduated under that same system
Hon. Uche Nnaji scored Grade D in Virology (MCB 431AB).
That grade was legally and academically a pass—then and now.
His official student academic file clearly confirms that he graduated with his set, as and when due.
SO WHY DID HE APPLY TO RESIT THE COURSE?
This is where truth defeats propaganda.
In the 1980s, UNN—like many Nigerian universities—allowed students who scored below C to voluntarily apply for supplementary examinations to upgrade their results.
• It was optional
• It was paid for
• It did not affect graduation status
Hon. Uche Nnaji was not trying to qualify to graduate.
He had already qualified.
He was simply seeking academic improvement, a practice that was lawful, common, and encouraged at the time.
WHY THE COURT MATTERS
Hon. Uche Nnaji is in court for one reason only:

Not brochures.
Not group photographs.
Not media speculation.
Academic records.
These files contain:
• Courses taken
• Grades earned
• Fees paid
• Receipts issued
• Final graduation clearance
This is the only legitimate proof of graduation anywhere in the world.
WHAT THIS CASE REPRESENTS BEYOND UCHE NNAJI
This case is bigger than one man.
It asks a dangerous but necessary question:
Can powerful institutions withhold records, distort history, and destroy reputations simply because it is politically convenient?
If this can happen to a former Minister,
what hope does the ordinary Nigerian have?
WHY HISTORY WILL FAVOUR UCHE NNAJI
The academic file—once released—will:
1. Provide the evidence the VC claimed he “did not see”
2. Confirm the letter written by Dr. (Mrs) I. A. S. Onyeabor to People’s Gazette on 21st December 2023, affirming that Uche Nnaji graduated in July 1985
And when records speak, propaganda dies.
THE POLITICAL VISION
This is about:
• Due process over mob judgment
• Records over rumors
• Institutions over individuals
• Truth over convenience
A society that destroys its records destroys its future.
